Do You Want To Have Magnetism and Presence?
Have you ever wondered why some people have what we call “Presence”. Presence in a person comes across as a special energy. They may not be tall or beautiful yet they have a magnetism that draws attention across the room, before they even open their mouths to speak. It is an aspect of humanity that I have been considering lately. It is not something we think about consciously but we recognize it when we see that quality in a person. Presence can be described as a type of self-possession that comes from awareness of self and how you are in your environment. It describes how you feel about yourself which is in a positive way. However, it comes from a place of truth, a place of self-knowledge and the humility that comes from that, rather than from ego. When you have presence, you do not have to prove anything to anyone because you respect both your own truth and that of the other. People with presence are collected and are not overly emotional. They don’t suppress emotions but rather their emotions are integrated and completely under their control. Therefore, there is no anxiety, but calm openness instead. There is no need to dominate and they are not seeking to impress. They hold their body in space in a relaxed way with zero self-consciousness and they occupy their space. They move their bodies with purpose and intent. They are fully in control of their energy, and are graceful and subtle.
Here is a checklist of how to achieve presence/ awareness before you even speak. At first it will take conscious effort, then it will become automatic and fully integrated into your person:
Body awareness:
Keep your spine tall, body relaxed. Balanced but without slouching and puffing.
Keep chin level, not tilted up or down.
Keep your jaw relaxed, mouth closed and softly neutral.
Keep hands still or relaxed without fidgeting.
Breathing with measured and slow pace. Breathing fully from your belly into your lungs. This is grounding.
Energy Awareness:
Your movements are deliberate and you are not rushing.
You feel centered in yourself, you are not trying to please anyone.
You are tuned into your body and you are not lost in your thoughts.
Containment of emotions do not equal suppression. Direct your energy inward instead of scattering it.
Eyes:
Keep your gaze steady, soft, aware and not darting around.
Mindset Awareness:
You don’t need to be liked, seen or validated.
You are safe, you are rooted and you belong here.
You bring calm and strength into your space and environment.
